Abstract
The proportion of Arctic char, Salvelinus alpinus (L.), coming from na tural spawning or from stocking has been estimated for the 1984 and 19 85 cohorts by marking the fingerlings reared in hatchery and released in Lake Geneva. In 1984, the proportion of the fingerlings coming from natural spawning present in the Swiss waters of the Lake when the mar ked fish were released, is situated between 8.3 and 24.8 %. Between 19 .1 and 34.9 % for 1985. Thus stocking of fingerlings appears very effi cient. A study of the main spawning grounds of the char in Lake Geneva and an analysis of the fishing statistics also show this efficiency.
