Abstract
Fatty acid patterns of all currently recognized Acinetobacter genomic species could be characterized by major amounts of hexadecanoic acid ( 16:0), cis-9 hexadecenoic acid (cis-9 16:1) and octadecenoic acid (18: 1 omega9c), and minor amounts of 3-hydroxy dodecanoic acid (3-OH 12:0) . Two main groups could be defined on the basis of presence or absence of 2-hydroxy dodecanoic acid (2-OH 12:0). None of the strains of A. l woffii (genomic species 8 and 9), and Acinetobacter genomic species 15 (I. Tjernberg and J. Ursing, APMIS 97: 595-605, 1989) contained this fatty acid, in contrast to almost all strains of the other genomic spe cies.
