The electrochemical behaviour of hydrazine on platinum single crystal
electrodes with basal orientations has been studied in 0.5 M H2SO4 by
means of cyclic voltammetry. Experiments have been performed in 10(-5)
-10(-2) M hydrazinium sulphate, showing that its electro-oxidation is
a structure-sensitive process. Adsorption experiments at open circuit
and at controlled potential conditions led only to stable irreversibly
adsorbed species on Pt(110). Adsorption of neutral hydrazine species
takes place on Pt(100) and Pt(111) in a reversible way, apparently wit
hout net charge transfer, thus modifying the voltammetric behaviour fo
r the adsorption-desorption processes of H(UPD) and possible anionic s
pecies.
