The chemiluminescence in the visible region (400 approximately 900 nm)
was measured from the reaction of F(2P) atoms with CH3CN and CH3CH2CN
under low and high pressure conditions. Emissions were observed from
vibrationally excited HF(double dagger)(X) and from electronically exc
ited CN(A) and CH*(A, B). The Franck-Condon factors of ON(A --> X) tr
ansitions was calculated, and the relative vibrational population of C
N(A) was obtained. The formation mechanism of CN(A2II) was suggested
by the dissociation of the activated molecule like (CH2CNF).
