The general expression for the entropy production in cosmologies with
variable effective cosmological 'constant' (LAMBDA) is presented. By a
ssuming that LAMBDA decays as LAMBDA = alphaR(-m)+beta(R/R)2, where R(
t) is the scale factor of the FRW models, the second law of thermodyna
mics and the Landau-Lifshitz theory for non-equilibrium fluctuations a
re used to establish constraints on the parameters alpha, beta and m.
