DETERMINATION OF SCATTERING FREQUENCIES FOR AN ELASTIC FLOATING BODY

. This paper studies the time-harmonic motions of a three-dimensional elastic floating body on the sea, in the case of finite and constant d epth. In order to compute the resonant states of such a system, a vari ational formulation for the determination of the scattering frequencie s of the problem is investigated, i.e., the poles of the analytic cont inuation of the solution operator. A practical method, based on a seri es expansion of the solution in a vicinity of infinity, is described. The scattering frequencies axe shown to be the solutions of a nonlinea r eigenvalue problem for a compact operator. Numerical results for a t wo-dimensional model are presented.
