Yz. Lai et al., THE INFLUENCE OF PRESULFONATION ON THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ANTHRAQUINONEIN SULFITE CHEMIMECHANICAL PULPING OF NORWAY SPRUCE, Cellulose Chemistry and Technology, 27(3), 1993, pp. 299-305
Presulfonation of Norway spruce chips significantly facilitated the an
thraquinone-catalyzed sulfonation and delignification reactions in sul
fite solutions at pH 9.8. The tear-tensile relationship of the chemime
chanical pulp (CMP) fibers also improved. The strength development of
sulfite CMP fibers depends more on the extent of lignin modification t
han the apparent sulfonate content of the pulp.
