Abstract
X-ray diffraction and X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy sho w that in sputtered Fe/Cu multilayers the thinnest Fe layers (10.5 and 6.3 angstrom) have fcc structure and a dramatically reduced magnetic moment. Thicker Fe layers (42 and 21 angstrom) have a bcc structure te tragonally distorted toward fcc.
