Abstract
Regular inclusion of a social worker alongside the expertising physici an whenever a judge has to decide on committing a person to a psychiat ric hospital, is known in German legal practice as ''Stuttgart model'' . Our experiences with this procedure are discussed on an interdiscipl inary level. In our opinion this model agrees with the spirit of the n ew German law governing guardianship and care.
