Abstract
Taste-bud microstructure was found to be similar to that found on othe r catfishes. The density was highest anteriorly on the barbels, decrea sing posteriorly down the ventral body surface. It appears that taste could enable Amphilius natalensis to feed effectively as a rheophilic, nocturnal microcarnivore.
