Aj. Booth, MICROSTRUCTURE AND DISTRIBUTION OF EPIDERMAL TASTE-BUDS ON THE NATAL MOUNTAIN CATFISH AMPHILIUS-NATALENSIS, South African journal of science, 92(10), 1996, pp. 495-496
Taste-bud microstructure was found to be similar to that found on othe
r catfishes. The density was highest anteriorly on the barbels, decrea
sing posteriorly down the ventral body surface. It appears that taste
could enable Amphilius natalensis to feed effectively as a rheophilic,
nocturnal microcarnivore.
