UNDERWATER PLUME FROM AN INSTANTANEOUSLY STARTED SOURCE

A simple model for bubble plumes originating from a suddenly started g as source at the sea-bed is described. Tentative values for the empiri cal model parameters are proposed and discussed. The governing equatio ns are integrated numerically and the results are compared with simila rity solutions and available experimental data. The model appears to p erform satisfactorily, but further experimental investigations are req uired to improve the empirical input and better assess the applicabili ty of the model. Results computed for parameter ranges of practical in terest are included.
