Abstract
Development of the energy requirement for steelmaking in the Federal R epublic of Germany. Locations, plant structure and interconnected ener gy systems of the Preussag Stahl AG. Examples of measures implemented by Preussag Stahl for energy saving: utilization of blast-furnace gas in the coking plant, equipment of the blast furnace with fuel preheati ng and top-gas flash turbine, converter gas recovery and utilization, utilization of the reheating furnace waste gas heat for charge materia l preheating, refurbishing of the power station, modifications of the air decomposition plants for oxygen generation and of the water treatm ent system; introduction of an energy management system. Some basic co nsiderations regarding future energy saving potentials and the effects of the application of new technologies, e.g. smelting reduction, coal injection in the blast furnace and near-net-shape casting.
