Heptakis(6-butylamino-6-deoxy)-beta-cyclodextrin (2) forms 1:1 complex
es with several inorganic anions in 0.10 mol dm-3 HCI or DCI at 25-deg
rees-C. The binding constant for a complex of 2 with the SO42- ion was
remarkably larger than those for complexes of 2 with univalent anions
and those for complexes of the alpha- (1) and gamma-cyclodextrin (3)
analogs with the SO42- ion. The circular arrangement of the protonated
amino groups in 2 may be advantageous for electrostatic interactions
with the bivalent anion.
