Rs. Chauhan et Lr. Kakkar, SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF VANADIUM AS V(III) WITH DIBENZOYLMETHANE, Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan, 66(10), 1993, pp. 3101-3103
A highly sensitive and selective method for the determination of trace
amounts of vanadium is developed by effecting complexation of V(III),
obtained on reduction of V(V) by dithionite, with dibenzoylmethane in
neutral medium. The colored complex is extractable into chloroform, a
bsorption maxima lying at 386 nm. The interfering effect of a large nu
mber of elements is eliminated completely, which leads directly to the
determination of the metal ion present in traces in samples. The meth
od obeys Beer's law in the range 0-2.4 mug-V cm-3 with Sandell's sensi
tivity of 2.46 x 10(-3) mug-V cm-2. Metal to ligand ratio in the extra
cted species is determined as 1: 3.
