Lc. Drickamer et Dg. Mikesic, DIFFERENCES IN TRAPPING AND KILLING EFFICIENCY OF SHERMAN, VICTOR ANDMUSEUM-SPECIAL TRAPS FOR HOUSE MICE, The American midland naturalist, 130(2), 1993, pp. 397-401
Data from 3 yr of trapping house mice (Mus musculus domesticus) in out
door enclosures were used to assess trapping efficiency of aluminum an
d galvanized Sherman live traps and Victor and Museum Special kill tra
ps. Victor kill traps capture house mice more frequently and effective
ly than Museum Specials. Significantly more mice were caught by the le
gs or tail in Museum Specials (57%) than in Victors (4%) and a greater
percentage ol mice caught in Victors (99%) were killed by the trap th
an for those caught by Museum Specials (74%). Aluminum and galvanized
Sherman live traps capture mice with equal frequency. There was a sign
ificant tendency for aluminum Sherman and Victor mouse traps to captur
e smaller mice than Museum Specials.
