S. Wilmesmeier et al., COMPARATIVE FTIR AND C-13 CP MAS NMR SPECTROSCOPIC INVESTIGATIONS ON SPOROPOLLENIN OF DIFFERENT SYSTEMATIC ORIGINS/, Zeitschrift fur Naturforschung. C, A journal of biosciences, 48(9-10), 1993, pp. 697-701
Comparative phytochemical investigations were carried out on sporopoll
enins of the following plant species: Bryophyta-Reboulia hemisphaerica
and Polytrichum strictum; Pteridophyta-Equisetum arvense, Selaginella
selaginoides micro- and megaspores; Gymnospermae-Cycas circinalis; An
giospermae-Typha angustifolia and Tulipa cv. ''Apeldoorn''. Although t
he range of the analyses included species from the Bryophyta to the An
giospermae, fundamental correspondences could be detected in the C-13
NMR and FTIR spectra concerning the occurrence of aliphatics, aromatic
s, ether and carbonyl/carboxylic functions in varying degrees. While t
he amount of aliphatics strongly dominated in the molecular structure
of all other sporopollenins investigated here, it was found in sporopo
llenin of Equisetum arvense in a much lower extent. Despite the differ
ent morphology of Selaginella selaginoides micro- and megaspores, thei
r sporopollenin spectra were nearly identical.
