The kinetics of the austenite-ferrite transformation were studied in r
apidly solidified Fe-x wt% C-6 wt% Ni ribbons with x = 2, 3 and 4. The
austenite decomposition during both isothermal and constant heating r
ate treatment was monitored by means of the Faraday balance method. Th
e activation energy of the decomposition process indicates that the re
action is controlled most probably by the diffusion of carbon in auste
nite.
