Influence strategies utilized by elderly care-receiving mothers and th
eir caregiving daughters were identified, including positive strategie
s, overt negative strategies, covert negative strategies, and option s
eeking. Mother's health, level of dependency, and residence were not r
elated to the use of most strategies. Negative strategies were associa
ted With reduced intimacy, while positive strategies were associated w
ith greater intimacy. Implications for future research and interventio
n are presented.
