The results of a controlled clinical trial in children mainly with ato
pic dermatitis are presented The topical application of a new formulat
ion with polidocanole and urea in a specific galenic cream base was co
mpared to a commonly used fatty cream containing linolic acid under pr
actical conditions. In contrast to the comparative preparation, the ap
plication of the newly developed product showed a stronger reduction o
f the pruritus by approximately 30 %. In 46 % of the patients, the med
ication containing urea and polidocanole lead to normal skin condition
s during the course of the trial. For the comparative preparation (the
fatty cream) the result was attained in only 28 % of the patients.
