Abstract
The specific role played by different muscarinic receptor subtypes in sleep regulation is investigated and discussed. On the basis of the re sults obtained with intracerebroventricular injections of selective mu scarinic antagonists into freely moving rats, it is suggested that eac h muscarinic receptor subtype induces different and specific changes i n sleep phases and cortical desynchronization processes.
