R. Aggarwal et al., PARALLEL SOLUTION OF FREDHOLM INTEGRAL-EQUATIONS OF THE 2ND KIND BY ACCELERATED PROJECTION METHODS, Parallel computing, 19(10), 1993, pp. 1105-1115
Conventional projection methods for the numerical solution of integral
equations are serial in structure, and require substantial synchroniz
ation which seriously degrades their performance in a parallel environ
ment. The present work focuses on the exploitation and implementation
of a new class of computational techniques, known as accelerated proje
ction methods, which are distinctly different from conventional method
s, capable of high accuracy and which are particularly appropriate for
concurrent computing. The methods are implemented in detail on a mult
iprocessor for a particular linear integral equation of interest. It i
s shown that accelerated projection methods possess a high degree of p
arallelism that leads to extremely efficient parallel algorithms.
