Abstract
When 2,2,5,5-tetramethyltetrahydrofuran-3-one 1 was oxidized with sele nium dioxide in ethanol, the title heterocycle 4 was formed along with 2,2,5,5-tetramethyltetrahydro-3,4-furandione 2. The diselenide 4 repr esents a novel six-membered heterocycle in the chalcogen series.
