Abstract
Three glycosphingolipids were isolated in the pure state from the crud
e drug, ''Jiryu'' (the earthworm, Pheretima asiatica). Their structure
s were determined as lactopyranosyl]-(4E)-16-methylheptadecasphingenin
e (1), sphinato-beta-D-galactopyranosyl]-(4E)-sphingenine (2) and sphi
nato-beta-D-galactopyranosyl]-(4E)-sphingenine (3). They are zwitterio
nic glycosphingolipids having a phosphocholine group attached to the s
ugar moiety, resembling those obtained from two kinds of marine anneli
d, and one has a branched long-chain base.
