Tm. Georges et al., TRACKING HURRICANE CLAUDETTE WITH THE UNITED-STATES-AIR-FORCE OVER-THE-HORIZON RADAR, Journal of atmospheric and oceanic technology, 10(4), 1993, pp. 441-451
Hurricane Claudette was successfully tracked for three days using the
2-s (7 m) surface wave direction field mapped by the U.S. Air Force OT
H-B over-the-horizon radar 2400 km away on the coast of Maine. Inflow
and fine structure of the surface circulation are apparent in streamli
ne plots derived from surface wave direction measured with 60-km resol
ution in the vicinity of the storm for five radar runs. The radar-deri
ved track is within 60 km of that published by the NOAA National Hurri
cane Center.
