Ce. Dungey et Cf. Bohren, BACKSCATTERING BY NONSPHERICAL HYDROMETEORS AS CALCULATED BY THE COUPLED-DIPOLE METHOD - AN APPLICATION IN RADAR METEOROLOGY, Journal of atmospheric and oceanic technology, 10(4), 1993, pp. 526-532
The severest test of a theory of scattering by particles is,how well i
t calculates scattering in the backward direction. The coupled-dipole
method can be used for accurately calculating backscattering at 94 GHz
by hexagonal ice crystals. Backscattering by columns is markedly diff
erent from that by plates, which indicates that it might be possible t
o infer size and shape distributions of ice crystals using recently de
veloped millimeter wave radar.
