Abstract
G(D3) (EC 2.4.99.8) and G(M2) (2.4.1.92) synthases were determined in the hypothalamus of normal (diet: 25% casein) and pre- and postnatally undernourished rats (diet. 8% casein). Both enzymatic activities were statistically higher in the hypothalamus of undernourished rats than in the hypothalamus of control rats on the 21st gestational day. The r esults indicate that undernutrition similarly alters the activity of b oth of these ganglioside biosynthesis enzymes in the rat hypothalamus at the developmental ages studied.
