A numerical model was designed to investigate the kinetics of the coup
ling reaction of quinonediimine (QDI), with solvent dispersion coupler
in a gelatin layer. In this model the diffusion, deamination, and int
erfacial reaction of QDI with the coupler droplets to form dye within
the layer were involved, and the corresponding numerical expressions w
ere derived. This model, with all available parameters, can be used to
simulate the kinetics of the coupling reaction and find the apparent
rate constant, the specific rate constant, and the diffusion coefficie
nt of QDI when combined with experimental kinetic measurements. In add
ition, more details (e.g., the distributions of QDI and dye formed wit
h respect to time or space in the layer) can also be obtained with the
model.
