The Integrated Information Center Project at the University of Minneso
ta is a three-year federally funded project whose purpose is to implem
ent and evaluate a model for integrating information delivery in a net
worked campus environment. The concept of an integrated information ce
nter envisioned an organizational entity which employed a variety of i
nformation technologies to capture, integrate, and provide scholarly a
nd administrative information resources to faculty and staff at the de
partment level. The Integrated Information Center was viewed as an int
ermediary organization between the department served and the various c
ampus information systems responsible for delivering scholarly and adm
inistrative information. This paper describes the implementation of th
e integrated information center and discusses the organizational force
s that both shaped its evolution and affected its mission.
