Immunosuppressive treatment of rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis
is indicated in almost all cases, while patients with the idiopathic n
ephrotic syndrome are often treated without a clear-cut indication. Ge
nerally accepted are corticosteroids for minimal-change nephropathy an
d the combination of corticosteroids and chlorambucil for membranous g
lomerulonephritis. Immunosuppression as a treatment of all other forms
of the idiopathic nephrotic syndrome is not established, because of t
he lack of conclusive controlled clinical studies. Nevertheless, there
might be an indication to treat certain severe cases, which should be
regarded as experimental, but sustained by case reports.
