The effect of metal cations and conditions of nonstationary electrolys
is on the throwing power, brightness of plates, and the metal current
efficiency is studied for the case of plating with zinc or Zn-Ni alloy
s in sulfate baths. Conditions of bipolar pulsed current are proposed,
which enable on to plate bright coatings in a bath containing no brig
hteners and to increase the plating range and throwing power of the ba
th. Plates containing 6-8% nickel are shown to have corrosion resistan
ce twice or three times as high as that of zinc plates.
