Conventional bond graph techniques for modelling the dynamics of an ar
bitrary flexible body have not considered the dynamic stiffening of th
e structures and have restrictions on the body reference frame and ass
umed modes. They will fail to predict the dynamic behaviour of a flexi
ble body undergoing high-speed rotation and translation in many practi
cal situations. A general multibond graph technique for modelling the
dynamics of an arbitrary flexible body is presented in this paper. The
multibond graph technique developed in this paper has no restriction
on the body reference frame and assumed modes, and considers dynamic s
tiffening through adopting non-linear strain displacement relations an
d keeping the first order terms of the geometric stiffness matrix. Ill
ustrative examples are given to demonstrate the validity and the gener
ality of this multibond graph.
