Lg. Feoktistov et al., ON THE NATURE OF THE PROMOTING EFFECT OF CATIONS ON THE ELECTROREDUCTION OF HALOMETHANES, Russian journal of electrochemistry, 33(1), 1997, pp. 75-77
To account for the promoting effect of H+ on the halomethane reduction
, which is similar to the influence of Me(4)N(+), it was assumed that
Bu(4)N(+) cations are displaced from the double layer by smaller catio
ns as the potential shifts away from its zero charge value. A signific
ant distinction in the behavior of H+ and Me(4)N(+) is related to the
fact that H+ is involved not only in the double layer formation but al
so in the electrochemical reaction.
