Abstract
This paper presents the introduction of CIM as a catalyst to human res ource and organizational change within manufacturing companies. The st rategic benefits expected to accrue from full CIM implementation are r eviewed and it is shown why these are frequently too important to be i gnored by production organizations. However the adoption of CIM brings with it new demands for interdisciplinary working across traditional functional boundaries and so the paper reviews these aspects of car an d suggests ways in which organizational and social problems may be ove rcome in the implementation of CIM.
