Moelywyn-Huggins concept of interactions between the molecular surface
s of the components of a binary mixture [Huggins M L, Polymer, 12 (197
1) 389] has been extended to develop an approach that reproduces well
the molar excess volume V(E) and molar excess enthalpy H(E) data of 2-
propanone-tribromomethane-n-alkane ternary and their sub-binary mixtur
es. The ternary V(E) and H(E) data, calculated by the present approach
, compare better with their corresponding experimental values than the
corresponding V(E) and H(E) data evaluated for these mixtures by the
more involved nonelectrolyte associated solution model approach.
