Intradiffusion coefficients of all species (cation, anion and solvent)
and viscosities have been measured for aqueous solutions of gallium p
erchlorate in the concentration range 0 - 2.3 mol-kg-1 at 25-degrees-C
. The perchlorate ion intradiffusion measurements were made using (ClO
4-)-Cl-36 as the tracer species in diaphragm cell experiments. The dev
elopment of a Method to SyntheSiZe (ClO4-)-Cl-36 from Cl-36- by electr
olysis is described. The perchlorate intradiffusion coefficients resul
ts show a concentration dependence tha is very similar to that for D(C
l-) in corresponding trivalent metal chloride solutions. A simple hydr
ation analysis based on all the transport results estimates a total (e
ffective) cation hydration for gallium within a 0 - 2 mol-kg-1 range o
f 10 (+/- 1.5).
