Mf. Rosu et al., EXAFS SPECTROSCOPY ON OVERPRESSURIZED KRYPTON BUBBLES IN COPPER AND NICKEL, Journal of physics. Condensed matter, 9(1), 1997, pp. 149-155
Bulk copper and nickel samples containing 2.5 and 5 at.% krypton prese
nt in overpressurized bubbles have been studied by EXAFS spectroscopy.
A fit to the experimental data yields krypton nearest-neighbour dista
nces of 3.62(4) and 3.69(4) Angstrom in a copper and a nickel matrix r
espectively. These values confirm that krypton bubbles are overpressur
ized. Calculated krypton packing densities are in good agreement with
results from other techniques. In addition, average krypton-metal near
est-neighbour distances of 3.0(1) Angstrom were determined. Atomistic
calculations show a wide variation of krypton-metal distances, in agre
ement with the experiment.
