THE CHLORINATION OF ALGERIAN SURFACE WATE RS AND ITS INCIDENCE ON THEFORMATION OF HALOGENATED ORGANIC-COMPOUNDS

The aim of this work is to contribute to the understanding of the cond itions of formation of volatile and non volatile halogenated organic c ompounds during the chlorination of algerian surface waters leading to drinking waters. The presence of humic substances in these waters lea ds to a considerable consumption of chlorine and to important formatio n potentials of halogenated compounds. These potentially toxic compoun ds can be found in finished waters when their treatment is not optimiz ed.
