Abstract
The existence of a weak solution to the equations of electrohydrodynam ics is proved. The data are allowed to be highly irregular; specifical ly, the initial charge density may be a measure (with integrable densi ty) concentrated on the boundary. Historical comments are made concern ing a relevant paper of B. Riemann.
