Six strains of rumen Lactobacillus and four Streptococcus bovis strain
s isolated from rumen wall and fluid samples were examined for the adh
erence to cells of primary and secondary cultures of ruminal epitheliu
m (REC) prepared from sheep and calf. S. bovis adhered to the keratini
zed REC Ruminal lactobacilli did not adhere. The presence of rumen lac
tobacilli in mixture had no influence on the adherence of S. bovis str
ains. No difference was observed in the adherence of tested bacteria t
o epithelial cells of primary or secondary cultures, but adhesion was
only detected on keratinized cells.
