Ld. Menezes et al., CONTINUOUS-WAVE ULTRAVIOLET FREQUENCY UP-CONVERSION DUE TO TRIADS OF ND3+ IONS IN FLUOROINDATE GLASS, Applied physics letters, 70(6), 1997, pp. 683-685
We have observed ultraviolet upconversion fluorescence from the D-4(3/
2) and P-2(3/2) levels of Nd3+ in fluoroindate glass under infrared pu
mping. It was found that the excitation of a large population in the F
-4(3/2) metastable level allows to achieve strong upconversion emissio
ns at 354 and 382 nm. A simple rate equation model reproduces the temp
oral behavior of the upconverted emission and allows us to estimate th
e energy transfer rate among three Nd3+ ions participating in the proc
