Abstract
The different parity single-particle levels with the asymptotic quantu m numbers [N, N, 0]1/2 and [N-1, N-2, 1]1/2 are almost degenerate arou nd delta approximately 0.6. It is shown that the L-S coupling scheme i s restored for these levels because of the strongly deformed quadrupol e interaction. The parity doublet levels may explain the quantization of alignment.
