We report on the observation of a rotational band in Th-232 built on a
4+ state at 1414 keV, which shows all characteristics expected for th
e band head of a pure K(pi) = 4+ two-phonon gammagamma-vibrational ban
d: The excitation energy is about twice that of the gamma-band head, a
ll observed decays lead to the gamma-band, and the B(E2) values betwee
n the two bands have the appropriate strength expected for a harmonic
surface vibration.
