Abstract
Algae are a large and diverse group of organisms from which a wide ran ge of secondary metabolites have been isolated. A number of these comp ounds possess biological activity such as toxicity, antibacterial, ant ifungal, antiviral, antitumour and other specific activities. An indic ation of the range and diversity of algal metabolites and their biolog ical activities is given and the potential of algae as a source of use ful biologically active products is discussed.
