The results of the temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibili
ty on xCoO .(1 - x)[2B(2)O(3) . SrO] glasses with 0 < x less than or e
qual to 50 mol% are reported. The effective magnetic moment values sug
gest that the Co2+ ions are predominantly octahedral coordinated in lo
w CoO content glasses, whereas in higher CoO content glasses the Co2ions are located in tetrahedral sites. Also theta(p) values indicate t
hat the Co2+ ions participate at the negative superexchange interactio
n for x greater than or equal to 20 mol%. Copyright (C) 1997 Elsevier
