Abstract
The highly efficient synthesis of per-6-azido-6-deoxy-cyclodextrins is described for alpha-, beta-, and gamma- CD. The molecules are shown t o be capable of forming monomolecular layers at the air-water interfac e, even though the only hydrophobic elements present are one methylene fragment and the azido group. The compression isotherms show evidence for the formation of bi- and multi- layers at high compression values .
