Abstract
The fatigue modes af ceramic balls under lubricated rolling-contact co nditions have been studied. Classification and mechanisms of failure d ue to delamination fatigue have been identified. Residual stresses by the X-ray-diffraction method, chemical analysis by EPMA, and crack det ection by the fluorescent-dye method have yielded some interesting obs ervations, which may be beneficial for material scientists.
