Kx. Qian et al., THE STUDY FOR ISOLATION AND PURIFICATION OF R-PHYCOERYTHRIN FROM A RED ALGA, Applied biochemistry and biotechnology, 43(2), 1993, pp. 133-139
An effective procedure for the rapid extraction and purification of th
e biliprotein R-phycoerythrin from a red alga, Ceramium isogonum, was
developed. The purified R-phycoerythrin of C. isogonum consisted of th
ree components with mol wt 180,000 (6beta subunits), 70,000 (6alpha su
bunits), and 30,400 (gamma subunit), respectively. The phycoerythrin i
s suitable for use as a natural food coloring and can also be used as
a fluorescent label.
