The requirement for high-quality printing paper containing secondary f
ibers and the environmental pressure for minimal chemical use prompted
a search for the optimum use of chemicals in deinking. The author exa
mines the role of each chemical in the different deinking stages with
a clear distinction between pulping chemistry and bleaching chemistry.
Investigation focused on the optimum point of hydrogen peroxide intro
duction. There was specific attention on the different actions of chem
icals in the presence and absence of ink.
