2-DIMENSIONAL GEL-ELECTROPHORESIS OF 4 SERUM SAMPLES FROM PATIENTS WITH IGD MYELOMA

Sera containing IgD paraprotein present problems in identifying patien ts with monoclonal gammopathies because only a small or even no spike may be present on standard serum protein electrophoresis. We have dete cted heavy chains of IgD monoclonal protein by means of high resolutio n two-dimensional gel electrophoresis. Besides clearly identifying del ta heavy chains in maps of serum proteins, we also found size and char ge heterogeneity of monoclonal immunoglobulins. The results demonstrat e the usefulness of two-dimensional gel electrophoresis in the analysi s of selected cases of immunoglobulin malignancies.
