The conduction-cooled high-T, (Bi, Pb)2Sr2Ca2Cu3O10 superconducting ma
gnet has been successfully operated using a Gifford-McMahon-type (GM)
refrigerator. The magnet continuously generates a magnetic field of 1
T inside a 40 mm bore with a coil temperature of 20 K while held in a
vacuum for over 100 hours. The coil is wound using a reacted Ag-sheath
ed 61-multifilamentary tape which has already been found to have excel
lent bending properties.
